Hasbro Sues Asus Over Transformer Prime Name
If you’ve done a search on Google for information on the Asus Transformer Prime, you may have found that you get quite a few results for Optimus Prime come up too. It seems that even Google has difficulty telling one from the other- which must be what toymaker Hasbro thinks too, having filed a lawsuit against Asus.
Hasbro is seeking damages and a temporary injunction against sales of the Tegra 3 powered tablet. In a statement to PaidContent.org Hasbro said:
“Hasbro continues to aggressively protect its brands and products and the specific actions we are taking today against Asus underscores yet again Hasbro’s willingness to pursue companies who misappropriate our intellectual property for their own financial gain.”
What will happen is anyone’s guess. Will Asus have to re-name their new tablet so soon after launch? Or.. pay a licence fee to keep their confusingly-similar-to-the-Autobot-leader Transformer Prime moniker. What do you think about the name? Should Asus fight to keep it or not?
