Latest PS3 3.50 Firmware Update Disables Third-Party Controller Adapters

PS3_controller The latest PS3 firmware update from Sony has enabled owners lucky enough to own a 3D TV to watch 3D Blu-Ray discs on their machines, but also seems to have another, less positive feature.

Many PS3 owners have reported that the update has disabled their third-party PS2 to PS3 controller adapters such as the Yobo PS3 Joybox and PS2 Guitar Hero adapters.

This follows a consumer alert from Sony warning users about the dangers of using “Counterfeit PlayStation 3 Wireless Controllers” due to a risk of fire or explosion.

Some brands of PS2 to PS3 adapter still work however, and no controllers officially licensed by Sony have been found to be affected.

If you own a PS3 and have been affected by this issue let us know in the comments below or on Twitter.  We’d also like to hear from you if you have an adapter that is still working so we can compile a list of unaffected devices.
