Methane Powered Volkswagen “Bio-Bug” hits UK Streets
GENeco, a waste treatment company from Bristol owned by Wessex water, have converted a Volkswagen Beetle to run on bio-gas- a fuel which is produced from a by-product of the treatment of human waste. They are hoping to prove that bio-gas can be a reliable alternative to fossil fuels as a vehicle fuel with no loss of performance or reliability.
The green credentials of the fuel are undeniable, the yearly output of bio-gas from GENeco’s facility in Avonmouth could power over 95,000,000 miles of driving a year saving 19,000 tonnes of C02. The company plan to convert their whole vehicle fleet to bio-gas if the trial of the Bio-Bug is a success.[Daily Mail]
