Sharp Plans To Launch 3D Smartphone Globally This Year

Sharp have confirmed plans to release their own auto-stereoscopic 3D Smartphone  globally by the end of this year. The phone will not require any 3D glasses to work and will come with a built-in 3D camera.  No other spec details or features were announced.

Sharp already manufacture glasses-free 3D screens for the Nintendo 3DS, and are a major mobile manufacturer in Japan, where 3d phones are already available.

This could mark a major play by the company to break into the international smartphone market after a previous joint venture woth Microsoft, the Kin was a spectacular flop in the US and was cancelled after only a few months of being on sale.

What do you think of the idea? Is 3D a good idea for a phone display or just a gimmick? Let us know your thoughts on Facebook or Twitter.
