UK Channel ITV Ready to Defend it’s IP if Apple iTV Rumour Becomes a Reality

itv-logo-665984612 ITV executives are said to be “furious” at rumoured plans by Apple to rename it’s Apple TV set-top box as Apple  iTV, according to a report in The Mirror on Friday.

When contacted for an official statement by Pocket Lint, Mike Large, ITV’s director of communications said that “ITV has a very strong brand, and a highly valued IP”.  He stopped short of confirming that ITV would consider legal action against Apple if they went ahead with the name change, but did state that ITV had “vigorously defended” it’s IP before.

Apple have previously licensed names for it’s products where they did not own the IP, as in the case of the iPhone name which was originally licensed from Cisco.  This seems unlikely in this case however, as when asked about the matter Large said that he felt this would “muddy the waters”.
