Xbox Live Gold Subscription Increasing In Price From November 1st
Microsoft’s Major Nelson has announced that the price of an Xbox Live Gold subscription will increase from 1st November in the US, UK, Canada and Mexico. If you’re in the UK like us you don’t have so much to worry about as the 12 Month live subscription will not increase, only the cost of one months subscription will be affected, increasing by £1 to £5.99. It would make sense therefore for UK customers to pay for a whole year up front as they stand to save a fair bit over paying monthly. Canadian subscribers will also only see an increase in the cost of a months subscription.
For US and Mexican customers it’s another story. They’ll see a whopping $10 (100 pesos) price hike for a years subscription.
It’s unclear as to the reasoning behind the increase, and the timing can’t be any worse with the launch of the casual-gamer oriented Kinect right after the price change. Surely this will be off-putting to prospective new Xbox buyers who will be wondering if the optional subscription model of the PS3 may be a better deal.
